My module mask project.
For my mask module, i had to chose a character from mythology. i chose pan. and decided to do a full head mask. originally i wanted to make it look like it was made of metal. incorporating crocheted panels to look like chain. once i molded the base of my mask, as previously seen. i started to cover it in tin foil, as i was doing this i changed my mind. and decided to make it all out of crochet. with the tin foil slightly showed through the gaps. i used a different material for this mask. called kobracast. which was like bandaged covered in adhesive......a bit like you see in a plaster cast.
using my hair dryer i heated it and molded it, and it was self adhering. i made the horns out of cardboard tubing as a mold. then used strips and molded them to the top of my head. covering it all in various types of wool and colours of crochetted panels.

Building process of my first mask.We were lucky enough to have prop, mask and milliner - Julia, come in and run a three day workshop on mask. she taught us how to use certain materials and techniques, that are very versatile and useful in all aspects of props and prop costumes. on the first day she asked us to pick one of the four seasons and design a mask that we felt reflected our chosen season. i picked autumn, and decided on an animal and also the decay and rotting that happens in the autumn. these pictures shows how it went from the basis mask making as shown on my blog. and the finished product.
1920's dress project. College Oct 2013.For my first project on the Costume degree, i had to make and design a 1920's themed dress, with a specific character i made up in mind. I and four other student collectively would be designing a tableau to depict the characters and the era. i designed a tableau on Photoshop of how i intended our photographic tableau to look. Between us as a group we decided on a scene, and supplied all the props we needed to create it. it was photographed in the cove at the college. i did using the reverse applique technique.

Our project was white on white. using the singular color with gold or silver elements.
i decided to try and incorporate costume elements. i researched swans....being white, and then decided to branched into mythology. this led me to a Norse myth of Valkyrie warriors....or swan maidens. i also incorporated the shape and style with panels, of viking shields. i wanted to use materials that were more barbaric to the senses, as opposed to general soft white materials. i used leatherette as the main material, the crocheted panels to mimic chain mail, and the leather thong to look like it was handmade.
